is it possible to make body armour out of metal that is bullet proof today?
and if so using common construction metals
i.e mild steel,
stainless steel
spring steel
aluminium
what is the mimimum thickness required to prevent penetration of standard 5.56 nato and .50 cal ammunition at a distnce of 30 feet
These days, with the emergence of new materials and new plastics, we don't use metals for bulletproofing. If you needed weighty metals for protection, you'd be using an iron bike helmet! Above this, metals aren't very good at deflecting bullets; a bullet's more likely to pierce the metal, or just dent it. You'd need quite a few inches of metals just to protect yourself from the average carbine!
On the contrary, consider this: If I shot a high-powered sniper rifle round straight down into water, the bullet would be destroyed before it made it 3 feet underwater.
The point is, we've got stronger, cheaper, and lighter materials (like Kevlar) than metals. I assure you, if metals were good bulletproofing, the U.S. Military would use it.
If I may ask, why would you need to know how to make cheap bulletproofing out of common, everyday materials? 30 feet seems about as close-quarters as an average shootout in a city would get.

Copywriting Secrets - Headlines Under a Mortician's Scalpel Part II
"How to Create Bullet Points That Cut Through Wallets of Steel"

Okay, so what is all the ruckus about bullet points? If you have studied copy or read really good salesletters, you'll know they have those infamous bullet points (sometimes preceded by some pretty arrow graphic thing) that points out certain benefits to the readers.
And that is the biggest thing you want to get with bullet points - CONVEYING BENEFITS OR SOLUTIONS.
But why do bullet points work so well in the first place? For a couple of reasons...
1) They are "bite sized" chunks of information. As human beings, we like order and predictability. Reading a bullet point provides both - it has an order to it and, in combination with other bullet points, creates some sense of knowing what is coming next. When you read the bullet points, your mind is thinking on some level "Ah, here we have a LIST. Here are some things I'll need to know."
Think of bullet points as "shopping lists of benefits." When someone reads them, they are actually SHOPPING WITH THEIR MINDS.
2) They provide structure and flow to the rest of your copy. Look at professional copy and you'll begin to notice that there are structured "segments" to the page. This segmentation is crucial to outstanding salesletters. We will get more into that in other lessons.
3) As stated in 1 above, they are "bite sized" bits of information. In some of my other writings, I discuss attention span and how the typical adult retains attention on any one thing no better than a goldfish (8 seconds!). Bullet points help to chunk things down so each line you read becomes an 8 second window of easy digestion.
In other words, bullet points are EASY to read and don't take much time to convey what they mean. They get to the point right away and advertise the all-important benefit or solution.
Now, I teach best by giving examples, so here we go...
Look at the following three bullet points from an imaginary product and then compare them to the subsequent three. Tell me which group you are sold on more:
* Made of reinforced metal tubing
* Comes with a scratch protective case
* Smells like roses
Compare the above to:
* Feel confident and assured with it's ultra-durable frame made of reinforced titanium - the same state-of-the-art metal used in NASCAR racecar engines.
* Preserve your investment and eliminate nasty chips and scratches with a high-grade polyalloy material used by NASA spacecraft. Space-age technology at your fingertips!
* Freshen up your living space using all-natural ancient aromatherapeutic recipes. Just easily slip the supplied canisters into the slot and you're ready for hours of soothing scent.
Allright, now it may be obvious that the second group is the one that would be more successful, but it's shocking how many times I see the first group type show up in copy. What does the second group above accomplish?
1) It conveys clear benefits in all three examples. Look at the first benefit - feeling assured. Targeting people's FEELINGS about themselves is VERY powerful, but we'll get to that later.
The second benefit is preservation and protection. We all love high quality, long-lasting items. It means less cost and hassle for us. This is also, coincidentally, why the Toyota Camry is one of the best selling autos in history. The level of quality lends it to having incredible engine life.
The third - freshening up your immediate living space. See how this is different from "smells like roses" ? Okay, it smells like a pretty flower, so what? What does this do for ME? It freshens up your living space... easily. Who wouldn't like to have that?
See how this works?
People aren't looking for the best widget, they are looking for the best SOLUTION that widget can provide. This is a huge distinction to incorporate in your mind. Do you really buy a knife because it's "sharp" ? No, you buy it because it can "easily slice through nearly anything in half the time."
In other words, if you want to sell a knife, advertise "How to easily slice, dice, cut, shred, skin, puncture or cut any surface with ease." Don't advertise "9 inch stainless steel blade." Sell on the solution first, THEN provide the tool to accomplish it!
Back to what bullet points do:
2) The second group was HIGHLY DESCRIPTIVE. A description is like a small story. I could get into story telling in a small course by itself, but it will have to wait. For now, know that the more descriptive you are within bounds of realistic expectation, the better off you will be.
Look at how much more descriptive the second group is. They are loaded with adjectives. Confident, assured, ultra, reinforced, state-of-the-art, high-grade - to name a few.
Also note that there are "positive-negative" adjectives you could use. These are basically words that cause people to want to keep away. Some examples would be:
Nasty, poor, terrible, debt, scam, hype, garbage, no, not
"Nasty" is one word I used in a benefit above.
3) Each benefit is supported by either an implied endorsement (NASA), high quality materials (polyalloy), or ease of use (supplied canister and it's slot).
